The Venom Protruck is
intended to be a reliable and consistent race vehicle aimed at the
recently introduced more open format of the Matador British Off Road
Championship style of event. The longer wheelbase will theoretically
give a more stable vehicle at speed and in flight, while being less
‘snatchy’ and more predictable on cornering. It is hoped that
this stability will outweigh the infrequent tight, forest corner when
the fiddle brakes will come into play.
The fibreglass body is not finished to the
standard that a road car may be, but is developed with the view that
panels will inevitably be lost or severely damaged in incidents;
that’s par for the course in the off-road racing game! The panels
are also laminated in a fairly heavy lay-up, with some lightness
being compromised for reliability and ruggedness. The supporting
frames for the bonnet and rear wings on the prototype will be
lightened by about fifty percent in the near future as they are too
heavy.
The Venom Protruck, while intended to be
consistently competitive towards the top level, is also aimed
squarely at the media in terms of outward appearance and the
opportunities the driver will be able to develop for that dynamic
camera shot!
